The Alerts application allows you to create and save customized alerts according to criteria you specify. Each Alert consists of one or more rules for tracking your visitors or leads. You can create as many alerts as you want, and each alert can contain a single rule or many. The Alert application allows you to create two kinds of alerts:

  • Lead alerts notify you of lead and traffic patterns from visits to your Website
  • Keyword alerts notify you of changes to your keyword status

Your Optify account comes with a collection of pre-defined alerts, which you can edit or reconfigure for your particular needs. You can also create new alerts. If you have more than one site in your organization, note that any changes you make in the alerts application will always apply to the current site.

Left-hand navigation pane

The left side of the Alerts page lets you choose among the current items in the application. When you select an item in the list, its content is displayed in the content pane.

  • To view or edit a Lead alert, expand the Lead alerts list, and then click the alert that you want to edit.
  • To view or edit a Keyword alert, expand the Keyword alerts list, and then click the alert that you want to edit.
  • To add an Alert, click Add new alert.

Alerts rule builder

When you click Add an alert in the left navigation pane, or when you select an existing alert, the alert rule builder opens in the right side of the page. This is the place where you create or edit the rules that will apply to the alert. For detailed information about specific Metrics, and to learn more about how rules work, see About Optify's rules and metrics.

  • Name of this alert View or edit the name of the selected alert, or type in the name of your new alert.
  • Type of alert Indicates the type of alert this is. If you are creating a new alert, select the alert type from the dropdown. Currently there are two types of alert: Lead alert or Keyword alert.
  • Alert me via:  Select the method or methods that Optify will use to notify you when this alert's conditions are met. If you choose to be notified via the Dashboard, your notifications will appear in the Alerts widget of the optify Dashboard. If you choose the e-mail option, you will receive an email whenever the alert is satisfied. Note that alert e-mails are separate from the Optify Daily Email.
  • Alert me when all of these rules are satisfied: Rules in this area define the conditions that Optify will watch for. You'll be notified when all of the rules listed in this area are true.
  • Add new rule Click here to add a new rule to the list of rules in the alert.
  • Save Click here to save your changes, or click Cancel to discard any unsaved changes.

About rules

Each rule is essentially a query on Optify's database of information about your website traffic. You create rules for an alert by choosing from a list of Metrics, and applying criteria to those metrics.

For lead alerts, the metrics available are the same as those for Lead Scoring and Exclusions, and are grouped into four categories: Company, Personal, Traffic, and Visitor Goals. The underlying data for these Metrics is derived from a variety of sources, depending on the metric. For detailed information about specific metrics, and to learn more about how rules work, see About Optify's rules and metrics.

For Keyword alerts, there are two metrics currently available: A competitor's keyword rank and My keyword rank.

Alert examples

  • If you want to know when your website attracts interest from any of three companies, Company X, Company Y, or Company Z, you can create a new Lead alert with one rule:

Metric: Company name  Criterion: is  Value: Company X, Company Y, Company Z

Note that Separating multiple values by commas will trigger the alert if any of the values is true.

  • If you want to know whenever your search performance improves by 2 rankings for any keyword in your keyword list, you can create a new Keyword alert with the following rule:

Metric: My keyword rank  Criterion: improves by at least  Value: 2
