Make scheduled updates for Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn

Optify's Twitter for Business application lets you organize related tweets, schedule tweets to appear at a designated day and time, and track your success. But what if you want your tweets to be posted to Facebook and LinkedIn as well?  You can set up your accounts so that your tweets (scheduled and otherwise) are posted to any or all three social networks. Moreover, you can control where each tweet goes on a post-by-post basis.

All it takes is a little initial setup in Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. After that, it's a simple matter of using Optify's Twitter for Business application and adding #fb or #in (or #li) to tweets that you want to appear on Facebook or LinkedIn, respectively.

Setting up Twitter

Start by ensuring your Twitter updates are not protected. Sharing tweets on other networks only works if your tweets are not protected.

To check your Twitter settings:

  1. Log into your Twitter account.
  2. Move the mouse pointer to your name and choose Settings.
  3. For Tweet Privacy, make sure the Protect my Tweets box is not checked.
  4. At the bottom of the Settings page, click Save.

Setting up Linked In

Next you need to connect your LinkedIn and Twitter accounts.

To set up LinkedIn to accept Twitter updates:

  1. Log into your LinkedIn account
  2. Choose Edit Profile from the Profile menu.
  3. Click + Add a Twitter account and follow the prompts to connect LinkedIn to your Twitter account.  If you're already logged into Twitter, you only need to authorize the connection.
  4. Move the mouse to your name at the top of the page and choose Settings.
  5. Under Settings, click Manage your Twitter settings. Make sure the Sharing Tweets option is checked and click Save Changes.

Setting up Facebook

To share updates on Facebook, you'll need to install the free app Selective Tweets.

To set up Facebook to display Twitter updates:

  1. Log into your Facebook account.
  2. Install Selective Tweets by going to https://apps.facebook.com/selectivetwitter/.
  3. In the Your Profile tab, enter your Twitter name and click Save Changes. Follow the prompts to log in and allow Selective Tweets to post to Facebook.
  4. If you want to be able to put the #fb hash tag anywhere in your tweet (not just the end), click the Settings tab. Customize settings as desired and click Save Changes.

Using Optify to schedule updates

Now you're ready to schedule a tweet or update that will appear in Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or any combination of these.

To schedule a tweet for multiple social networks:

  1. In Optify, click Twitter for Business in the top navigation bar:
  2. Under Create a Tweet, enter the text of your update in the box provided.
  3. To make this tweet also appear on your LinkedIn profile, include the #in (or #li) tag in the text.
  4. To make the tweet also appear on your Facebook wall, include the #fb tag in the text.

Note: The #fb tag needs to come last unless you have adjusted the settings accordingly in the Selective Tweets app.

  1. Use the When to Tweet controls to schedule when the tweet will appear on Twitter and other social networks.
  2. Use the adjacent drop-down to associate the tweet with a campaign (optional).
  3. Click Post Tweet.

Use this method to schedule multiple updates for multiple social networks and campaigns in advance and have each updates appear on the day and time you want.
